What is EZ-D™?

EZ-D™ is a new convenience based DVD format that plays a full length feature movie. Once removed from its packaging, the movie can be viewed as many times as desired within the 48 hour window. After the 48 hours elapse, the disc becomes unreadable by the DVD player.

Does EZ-D™ work differently than a standard DVD?

EZ-Ds™ have the same great sound and picture and are manufactured using the same processes. Simply remove from the air tight package and place in any player, drive or gaming system designed to accept a standard DVD and enjoy the movie!

Are EZ-Ds™ recyclable?

Yes, EZ-Ds™ are recyclable and no different in their environmental impact than regular DVDs. Polycarbonate is a fully recyclable plastic and the proprietary chemical and technology used in the limited play DVD conform to EPA standards for health and environmental protection.

Consumers can recycle their EZ-D™ discs simply by mailing them back to GreenDisk Services.

GreenDisk Services
2200 Burlington
Columbia, MO 65202

The address will be printed on the actual disc. The existing program requires the consumer to simply put the expired disc in a stamped envelope and send through any regular mailbox.

What are other ways consumers can recycle their EZ-D™ discs?

BVHE and Flexplay are working on various other recycling programs. Consumers will be able to:

Request a postage prepaid mailer to be sent to them through the recycling link on the website. Upon receipt of the mailer, simply place up to 5 expired EZ-D™ discs in the envelope and send in any regular mailbox.
Print a postage prepaid electronic label instantly through the recycling link on the website. Once printed, simply adhere the label to an envelope, place the expired EZ-D™ discs in the envelope and send in any regular mailbox.
Or, bring your expired EZ-Ds™ to locally established collection points.

How does the quality compare with standard DVDs?

EZ-Ds™ have the same great sound and picture quality that DVDs are known for.

How many times can I watch the movie on a “48 hour” EZ-D™?

The disc will offer perfect play as many times as you want during the 48 hour “window.” The technology is based on time and has nothing to do with the number of plays.

How does the technology work?

Once the disc is removed from its packaging and exposed to air, an oxidation process begins that renders the disc unplayable after 48 hours. This oxidation process changes the color of the disc, preventing the laser within the DVD player from reading it.

How is this different than DIVX?

EZ-D™ is substantially different from the “Digital Video Express” (DIVX) technology from a few years ago. EZ-Ds™ are standard DVD discs that operate in any standard DVD player, while DIVX used special discs and special players.

When does the deterioration process start?

The process starts once the package is opened and exposed to air. It has nothing to do with when it is first played or how often. Although the oxidation process has begun, no picture or sound degradation occurs during the first 48 hours.

How can I tell if my EZ-D™ disc is still good?

If the disc is still in the package, simply look at the centermost ring of the disc through the back of the package.  The ring will turn from red to black once expired.  If the disc has been removed from the package, the play side of the disc (non-disc art side) can also be checked.  This side will also turn from red to black when no longer playable.

Can it still play after 48 hours?

Depending on player type and external environmental conditions, an EZ-D™ disc may play longer than 48 hours. Our movies are intended to provide consumers with a minimum of 48 hours perfect play.

Can EZ-D™ discs cause any damage if I leave them in my DVD player for an extended period?

No, EZ-D™ discs act just like ordinary DVDs. The color change of the disc takes place within the polycarbonate and will never harm your player.
