Assistant college basketball coach Jimmy Dolan is a competitive and aggressive sportsman with a single goal: to take the reins of the team when his boss, Coach Ray Fox, retires. However, in order to be considered for the promotion, Jimmy needs to prove that he has what it takes to recruit star talent. And since all the best players are signing with competing schools, the chance for Jimmy's advancement looks bleak -- until he gets the wild idea to scout for a tower-of-power player in Africa. Against orders, Jimmy sets out to find a special athlete who can match or beat any player in the states. But not everyone wants to be a sports superstar, and Jimmy finds himself dribbling up the wrong court when the player of his dreams -- a tall Winabi warrior named Saleh -- can't be dazzled by flashy, fast-talking recruiting techniques and promises of wonderful gifts and fancy cars. In fact, from the moment he arrives in this small village, Jimmy's high-pressure, slam-dunk techniques clash with the local customs, and it isn't long before his plans hit the foul line.
